Let's talk about the hike that happened last Monday. Let's also not talk about why I was too busy to update my blog for the past 1 week.
The hike was fun, as you can see from the various pictures. Hiking with Ziyad and Tristen made me realise three very important things.
1. The tent bag is stupid. Carrying it is a ridiculous chore, and throughout the whole hike we took turns experimenting and finding a way to carry it without potentially hurting / aching every single part of our body.
2. East Coast Park is way big. We decided to move away from the others because they were making a lot of noise at the campsite. Wanting to find a peaceful / relaxing / we-will-actually-sort-of-like-it place to finish our hike report which consists of me drawing maps and Ziyad writing reports and Tristen helping us both, we got ourselves happily stranded in Area C. The campsite was in Area F. Having walked there at 12.15am, we were quite unhappy (trust me, I'm controlling anger...haha) when Beng called and wanted to see us back at camp in 5 minutes. We took 40 minutes walk from campsite there! As impossible as it sounded, we did not make it. Yup. Beng scolded us, talking about stuff we didn't actually bother hearing. My guess is stuff about why we should not just run off, but he always nags so it doesn't really matter.
3. Singing can help make you feel better when you are stressed out and tired. And the best part is, we were so tired, we sang off-key. While walking from the benchmark (the silly little metal dot thing with an arrow pointed to it, one of which is located at Kg Ubi) to the Church behind Yuying Secondary School, we passed by a LOT of IF YOU DRINK, DO NOT DRIVE signs. So we got creative and created our hike song, to be sang off key after we completed the hike.

Day 1, nothing much happened. We got ourselves stuck at Changi General Hospital looking for maps and information for our writeup. And I ended up staring at the big A & E Ward Sign while Ziyad got conned / scammed into doing stuff for charity. The CGH canteen food was tempting, the smell was unbearable. But it was against hike rules to buy stuff during the hike, so, we just had to resist the temptation.
We arrived at campsite first. How surprising. And we couldn't bathe at East Coast Park, so we all just washed our hair, hands and feet. Ziyad was laughing when I told him to wash his hair, haha he shaved.
Day 2. Our 8th checkpoint was the benchmark 4.31 at Kg Ubi. See the cute pic of our shoes against that small metal dot thing? Yup. We found it. Surprise surprise. It was drizzling, and after 10 minutes, we found it! We ALSO found a building called A-Z building (A for Avester, Z for Ziyad!) How nice. Before that we took a wrong turn and ended up outisde CISCO HQ, and luckily we did not get completely lost.
Checkpoint 9 was the church and during the stretch from 8 to 9, the singing began. It was a fun experience and definitely unforgettable. And at the last checkpoint, Punggol CC, we were so happy we sang and skipped there lol.
Then Xiu Qi, who got lost in Hougang, met us for lunch and we all went back to VS to finish our hike report. And then I decided to make myself very busy for the next few days.
Saturday I went bowling with my cousins. That's when I got 175 AND a turkey! Too bad Jacky wasn't around. Finally, some exciting news. I have officially begun my mugging on Sunday. Oh and I finished some homework already! (lol)
And I shall finish more before I start blogging again. And I have to fix my com.

Avester's Column 93
I finally managed to gather some time to post something decent about the past week. What happened this week? Well, here's a rundown of events: Camp, Struggling with Hike Report, Sushido Competition. Now I'm VERY sure you would be interested in continuing with reading this, so let's talk about the camp.
Camp was fun. As in, I'm sec3, food IC, and I just said that. I went to Giant... NINE times in one week just to make sure everything (food) was okay, buy food, break food (not much... or not at all...) and all that stuff food ICs do. Stevenson Patrol got combined with Darwin. The result? DarSte Patrol. (pronounced Dusty)
We started off with a silly treasure hunt competition that we should have won, and instead got accused of cheating. For some reason, we were always caught cheating on all of Day One's games. And it definitely wasn't me (most of the time) Anyway, everyone cheated. So it didn't really matter. It's just how bad you cheated.
Day One night was one of the best parts of the camp! Night Cycling trip to Changi Village. At 9pm, we all walked to East Coast Park, got our rented bikes and cycled some 10+km to Changi Village. The most stupid and boring part of this trip was the long 6km straight along Changi Airport. Everyone's whole body ached like crazy. We arrived at 11+, then at 12 we set off back for school. Whoa, we cycled past 20km, and we kept complaining about aching here and there. The bike seats were uncomfortable. They were too small.
And after a somewhat good night's rest, the next morning we went hiking along the South Ridge Trail. It's 15km I think, and we walked and did not complain as much as the night before. The scenery was nice. Kent Ridge Park, Horticulture Park, Alexandra Arch, Henderson Waves and last but not least, Mount Faber. We had a lot of stupid fun at the playground at Hort Park (no, seriously, a bunch of 13-16 year old 'kids' playing at the playground...) and Wil beng tried to spin around a spinning platform thing which Hao Yang conveniently called it The Next Generation of Pole Dancing. At the bottom of Mount Faber, we were given a choice. beng asked us, WOULD YOU LIKE TO EAT AT VIVOCITY, OR WOULD YOU LIKE TO EAT AT SEAH IM FOOD CENTRE? Well, we said Vivo, and he sort of messed up and brought us to harbourfront Centre, where the same bunch of 13-16 year old 'kids' camped at Macs.
Bowling at Safra, Mount Faber. Since we were there, we might as well bowl, right? My scores were bad for my standards... 100. Yeah. It should be about 120+. But anyway, I haven't bowled in a very long time.
Day 2 night we played badminton. Me in 3/4 pants and Xiu Qi in slippers. Playing badminton at 11pm. It was tiring, especially since Guo Qiang was a very good shuttler.
Day 3 we had cooking competition. My patrol did something silly. Our soup was rated last out of 4 patrols. Why? Because Yip Hao Yang was very smart. He asked everybody, what should I add to the soup. And he ended up adding EVERY SAUCE. Light soya sauce, dark soya sauce, oyster sauce, chicken stock, whatever was on the table he just grabbed it and a SIGNIFICANT portion of it went into our soup. It tasted like a lot of MSG.
Friday I decided to go bowling with Jacky. The machine kept jamming on us. I managed 141, which was quite silly, since halfway through the game the machine got stuck and started my frames with 5 pins. If I knocked those 5 pins down it was a spare! And Jacky happily resetted the pins, which made the machine jam even more. Before that though, we were at Fish and Co. Downtown East. We were both enjoying our meals when suddenly the restaurant decided to blast music. I'm okay with any music since I would be busy eating and wouldn't care much, but they decided to blast I Wanna Fuck You by Plies and Akon. I was eating my burger and I almost choked-for the rest of the meal and everyone in the restaurant was LAUGHING. Even us. Wow, they really know how to chase customers away. Didn't feel like eating. The song is that kind of mellow tune that sounds pleasing and the type restaurants NORMALLY play but then, the lyrics were just, not for it. Before that, we were at my house, wanting to play pool. I wonder why the pool table was still under maintenance. For all of you who have no idea why the pool table needed fixing, I shall leave it that way.
Saturday. Woke up at 6, tried to finish the last parts of my hike report by 10, because Beng wanted to meet us at 10 for a briefing for our hike. Met Ziyad and Macs and we struggled until 11+, and we arrived at VS at 1130. We were HORRIBLY late. We only got 20 from Beng. And were shocked. Beng was in an UNUSUALLY good mood, like he just received his year end bonus or something of that sort. After that we practiced doing map sketches of Marine Parade Post Office (conveniently closed) and played with the see-saw and balance rack at a playground.
Today. Sushido Competition. Quite a number of people no-shows. Managed to get through to final eight, and overall got placed 5th. Which also means I get a free T-shirt. Not bad, since I only paid $2. And I did enjoy myself using new recipes I'd never ever dream of using. And I met a lot of pros, those legendary players. The girls played better than the boys, luckily the 2 categories were Male and Female. Or else we would have gotten thrashed. The girls game average was 900+++, the boys highest score was 562! I got a 505 as my highest. All the girls had the top 3 recipes and were just sitting there spamming skills at each other. My game was more mild. Managed to take off in the preliminaries and got beaten (by 10+ points) in Quarters. Overall 5th and free T-shirt and some in game extra stuff (which I have a feeling will not be very useful) quite good already.
And I have a hike to go for tomorrow. I remember Sec1, tried to play taiti at the top of the tower, and we did the Wil Beng drill. TWO YEARS AGO, I went as a companion. TOMORROW, I'm going as the main hiker. Time flies so fast, doesn't it?
I can't wait for the hike. 31km in two days with full pack. It was MY hike route, and it rocks. No harm telling you my checkpoints.

Hey the hike report is almost okay. And the route, which I planned, sort of quite actually completely rocks. So, Ziyad and I need a hike companion. So we got Ziyad to get a sec1 companion to come along.

Bowling at Safra, Mount Faber. Since we were there, we might as well bowl, right? My scores were bad for my standards... 100. Yeah. It should be about 120+. But anyway, I haven't bowled in a very long time.
Day 2 night we played badminton. Me in 3/4 pants and Xiu Qi in slippers. Playing badminton at 11pm. It was tiring, especially since Guo Qiang was a very good shuttler.
Day 3 we had cooking competition. My patrol did something silly. Our soup was rated last out of 4 patrols. Why? Because Yip Hao Yang was very smart. He asked everybody, what should I add to the soup. And he ended up adding EVERY SAUCE. Light soya sauce, dark soya sauce, oyster sauce, chicken stock, whatever was on the table he just grabbed it and a SIGNIFICANT portion of it went into our soup. It tasted like a lot of MSG.
Friday I decided to go bowling with Jacky. The machine kept jamming on us. I managed 141, which was quite silly, since halfway through the game the machine got stuck and started my frames with 5 pins. If I knocked those 5 pins down it was a spare! And Jacky happily resetted the pins, which made the machine jam even more. Before that though, we were at Fish and Co. Downtown East. We were both enjoying our meals when suddenly the restaurant decided to blast music. I'm okay with any music since I would be busy eating and wouldn't care much, but they decided to blast I Wanna Fuck You by Plies and Akon. I was eating my burger and I almost choked-for the rest of the meal and everyone in the restaurant was LAUGHING. Even us. Wow, they really know how to chase customers away. Didn't feel like eating. The song is that kind of mellow tune that sounds pleasing and the type restaurants NORMALLY play but then, the lyrics were just, not for it. Before that, we were at my house, wanting to play pool. I wonder why the pool table was still under maintenance. For all of you who have no idea why the pool table needed fixing, I shall leave it that way.
Saturday. Woke up at 6, tried to finish the last parts of my hike report by 10, because Beng wanted to meet us at 10 for a briefing for our hike. Met Ziyad and Macs and we struggled until 11+, and we arrived at VS at 1130. We were HORRIBLY late. We only got 20 from Beng. And were shocked. Beng was in an UNUSUALLY good mood, like he just received his year end bonus or something of that sort. After that we practiced doing map sketches of Marine Parade Post Office (conveniently closed) and played with the see-saw and balance rack at a playground.
Today. Sushido Competition. Quite a number of people no-shows. Managed to get through to final eight, and overall got placed 5th. Which also means I get a free T-shirt. Not bad, since I only paid $2. And I did enjoy myself using new recipes I'd never ever dream of using. And I met a lot of pros, those legendary players. The girls played better than the boys, luckily the 2 categories were Male and Female. Or else we would have gotten thrashed. The girls game average was 900+++, the boys highest score was 562! I got a 505 as my highest. All the girls had the top 3 recipes and were just sitting there spamming skills at each other. My game was more mild. Managed to take off in the preliminaries and got beaten (by 10+ points) in Quarters. Overall 5th and free T-shirt and some in game extra stuff (which I have a feeling will not be very useful) quite good already.
And I have a hike to go for tomorrow. I remember Sec1, tried to play taiti at the top of the tower, and we did the Wil Beng drill. TWO YEARS AGO, I went as a companion. TOMORROW, I'm going as the main hiker. Time flies so fast, doesn't it?
I can't wait for the hike. 31km in two days with full pack. It was MY hike route, and it rocks. No harm telling you my checkpoints.

Hey the hike report is almost okay. And the route, which I planned, sort of quite actually completely rocks. So, Ziyad and I need a hike companion. So we got Ziyad to get a sec1 companion to come along.

Okay, I'm back from all my overseas trips, and I would have a lot of things to say. Of course I do.
Hmm, let's start with Beijing. It was cold. You probably heard me complaining that I got stuck overseas without internet and now my hiscore position in Viwawa is ruined. Actually, you wouldn't have since I never did complain. The bird nest stadium was cool (and so was the weather...). I also got tested in my endurance and stamina... for shopping. Like, how long I could stand walking around aimlessly looking for something I would want to buy. You know, contrary to popular belief, I don't get bored too easily. Anyway, we didn't go to many tourist attractions, more about shopping. And the silly thing was that in the hotel, we watched a screwed up version of Condor Heroes, which had a ridiculous ending and had Guo Liang acting as the bad guy. He looked funny with the beard.
Nothing else important I would have to say about being overseas. What about yesterday?
Beng was not in a good mood yesterday. He was generally unhappy, and it was worse than other days. He started complaining about Patrol Logs, and where is my patrol log? With Ziyad. Who wasn't present. Who would only be present this coming Friday. He also made us pay $1 in order to take tests. COMPULSORY tests. Apparently he made it clear that if we pass, we get the $1 back. That's blackmail! And since I didn't even finish taking the test (Emergency Evacuations Practical) due to lack of time yesterday, BENG I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!! I HAD TO PAY LUNCH USING MY EZLINK CARD!!! Yeah, I was facing money shortage problems yesterday after going to Borders on Friday. I never seem to leave Borders empty-handed, unsuprisingly.
Then after meeting we went to buy some of the dry foodstuff for the camp. I'm in charge (involuntarily) of food for the camp. The camp's tomorrow to 17th. I'm not worried about not having fun. I have other things, like rain, screw-ups and Beng to worry about. Like he said,' If you bunch of Sec 3s screw up the camp, you're going to go down in history as the worst batch of PLs and APLs ever.' Okay, that's bad. And my department is somewhat very likely to screw up! I can't screw up. Not now. Not ever, but let's just concentrate on the 'not now' part.
Looks like it's going to be 3 days of fun. Bowling, hiking, cooking competition, games, yeah. So I'll be back on Thursday. The camp's going to get my mind off a lot of things, and I'll just let it drift me that way for now.

The meaning of psychosis intended here is the GREEK meaning, not the English meaning. The English meaning refers to a state of mental disorder aka mad.
Fake, fake, fake. Everytime Avester comes back from holidays the podcast just *has* to be about fakery and fake stuff and nothing really real. That would be really fun(ny).
