Avester's Column 77, that's 42+35, both multiples of 7, the 11th multiple of 7, 50+ my lucky number, and a lot of many other interesting combinations.

Wow, okay, anyway, today was way fun.

It's teacher's day. That means a reunion with old friends and teachers. It was also an interesting chance for me to narrate and make cross linkages between everyone I know, from CPS 6/1 2005, VS 2B 2007 and VJC 08V14.

I started my day by sleeping at 1. That was because I spent my whole evening designing teacher's day cards on my computer and it crashed and I had to get it to work then I had printer problems and then I couldn't find paper and I wanted to fold origami then people kept disturbing me on the phone and when I was finally done, it was 12 midnight. And then I spent an hour writing dedications and notes to my current teacher's in the cards. Then I added a nice keyring thingy I bought a few days ago onto each card (some of them have special meanings!) and I went to sleep. Not a bad start, huh?

Morning at school. Teacher's Day breakfast. Macdelivery problems. We had no idea what the hotline and kept trying, then in the end we had to cancel our order as Kimberly and Jo-ann had to rush to Parkway to buy cake. Anyway, while the teachers were busy enjoying themselves (as much as the students), I went around giving my teachers the cards. The teachers today have such interesting dress sense. My last card went to Ms Ng, whom I could not locate after circulating the canteen three times-because she was right smack in the middle! Then we were rushed into the hall where we were spammed with nice video presentations, the best one in my opinion was the first one on the teachers' skit with Mr Leonard Ng and Mr Keith Lee narrating. The kid photos of the teachers were so CUTE! We watched videos of teachers being just themselves, dancing, laughing, being like us.

Okay then I went back to VS with Jacky. We saw Mr Maran playing soccer, then after that I went to find my teachers last year, together with Kai Yi, Sakif and Abdul Rahman (2B!) We had a nice conversation with Ms Raksha, who was STILL convinced that IP is taking away all of VS best students. We also met Mr Thiru, Ms Marliana and Mr Maran. The atmosphere outside the VS Staff Room was so different. Old boys were talking to their teachers, sharing their experiences and remembering the VS Spirit. Something that is so different, so unique-that VS Spirit.

Then after that I went with Song Kai to visit Mrs Yah, our 6/1 Form/Chinese teacher. After taking the wrong bus and a horribly long and boring bus journey, we arrived at Mrs Yah's condo, which was ALSO Kai Yi's condo, which was a 5 minutes (or less) walk from mine. We met many of our old classmates from way back, who was there: AH People: Amanda, Vinson, Jia Hong, Jee Yuan, Jeremy, Hsin Yin, DH People: Ching Kai, Zhen Ling, CCHM People: Ann Gie and Chrystal, then there was also Farouq, Mervyn, Joelle, most of the famillair old faces that look so different now. Mrs Yah talked to us about failing Chinese, she told us that she's no longer teaching but instead pursuing a Masters, people complaining about Chinese, Vinson's jokes, all the laughter, the usual. Maybe the most reflective bit about me after 3 years is that I've changed (a lot), I told myself I don't ever want to talk about my primary school because now that I think about it, I think I was really stupid and crazy. After today, all those memories came back, it made me realise that all those experiences changed me, and even though I know that the me today is always so happy-go-lucky, very reflective, indirect, maybe sometimes attention seeking, I know that I'm different from what I used to be, some stuck-up person with an attitude problem that always gets into trouble. And that's a good thing.

Wow. Look at all the reflecting. We also took a group photo which I will post on my blog once Mrs yah uploads it and sends it to us.

This year's teachers' day was fun and definitely unforgettable. Now, onward to the final year exams!

Okay, okay, so you wanted to know what I meant earlier about cross linkages and bridging? Well, it's just like this. People I used to know know people I know now. And we shared about what we know about everyone, basically.

Jee Yuan: Eh Avester, I think Kai Yi hates you.
Me: (nods and shrugs) I think I noticed that...

Ching Kai: When Qing Hui went back to DH I said hi and the first thing she said was 'Avester is in my class leh!'
Me: That better be for a good reason.

Song Kai: Ann Gie, do you know Yunita?
Ann Gie: Er... everyone knows her.
Me: *tries to slap Song Kai*

Me: Do any of you know Christina?
Jeremy: She's in Jee Yuan's class
Jee Yuan: She said that you're a little crazy

Well, that's that I guess. I'll be away until Sunday Morning for the Arrow Scouts 70th Annual Campfire tomorrow night. We have to go there by 7 tonight and do a lot of stuff and preparation for tomorrow, so it's something like a mini camp (2 days 2 nights). Then I have to face mugging-a lot of mugging- for the next 9 days!

This year, VJ's theme for Teacher's Day is Why So Serious? And my own personal theme is T42.

42. That's the answer to the meaning of life, the universe and everything. Maybe we are not that ambitious, but still, we want to strive, and we need the guidance and support from our teachers.

This year, Avester has some interesting gift plans for teacher's day. Teachers, its okay! No-you are not going to get freaky stuff, just plain, ordinary, totally random stuff. But you know I'm not that un-dense and all, so everything I give this year WILL HAVE a secret meaning behind it. What are the gifts? Who will get what? Well, I'm still planning but I already have a rough idea so check back some time soon (maybe by this Wednesday) on some idiot-proof details on my gifts this year (you may then proceed to waste a whole afternoon figuring out who gets what and what it means).

Okay, the Olympics have finally come to a close. That means it's time to study for our EOYs. o.O

Arrow Scouts Campfire - 30 August (which means I lose two days to study, but I'm not worried.)

EOYs start on 8th September and end 17th, that's 9 days of madness to look forward to, then after that we're free! (Especially since my brithday comes the weekend after the EOYs finish) As to how much I'm prepared for, quite reasonable so far, and just like Review Test Week, I won't panic, (and as usual to tremendously terrifing effects).

Avester not panicking -> Avester under stress and denial
Avester denies being stressed out -> Bad effects
Bad effects -> Bad consequences

For example, remember in PLTC? I spent 3rd day orienteering thinking about review test and ended up quarreling with Wei An, messing up the whol orienteering exercise and getting angry with myself. I reflected to myself after that that something like that won't ever happen again. I hated that day, hated every thought of it. If I wasn't so tired and fatigued that day I would be thinking and reflecting and hating that day.

It won't happen this time. Because this time, after the exams, I have many, MANY things to look forward to.

I learnt a very valuable lesson today.

Some people who are older than ou does not necessary make them have authority over you. They have virtually no right to tell or force you to do anything unless they have earned your respect. And we all know that respect is based on trust.

So why do we still give respect to people who cannot keep their word? I think we're all still just being nice. It's just that, like a fraying rope, the thread of trust will soon snap. And unless we are able to reinforce it, something bad may happen.

Respect can, and should only be gained by trust. Because we put our trust into your leadership and guidance and we believe that you will not disappoint us.

Unfortunately, it takes two hands to clap.

And these hands never wanted to work ith each other from the start.

For that matter, I wish Ms Lim, my VS Sec1-2 Math Teacher a swift recovery.

Okay, then last Saturday some of us VS Scouts went to the Catholic High Scouts campfire. Here's the souvenir they gave us (it's a code wheel).

Yes, we were feeling a little bored and so I solved the code on the spot. It's actually quite easy. Reminds you of our campfire coming in 1 week (yes, so soon). And just like every year, I post this on my blog before our annual campfire.

And now we can begin my overview of this week.

Avester's Column 76-"Proofs of how jacket equations will never be y=mx+c..." The Straitjacket

We shall start with last Saturday. I went for scouts with a sore throat and bad cough, Good move, since I know that I'll be shouting at the Sec1s anyway. It was all okay until Sing-Song-Session. Thank you Ziyad for not turning up (it's okay lah). Bryan Yong and I had a "fun" time getting the Sec1s to sing...TWO songs. We wanted 8, Ziyad expected 6, and we finished TWO. We started with Jamaican Farewell and already we could tell the mood was not there. Everyone sounded so sian. Fine. But when we went on to Top Of The World, no, it was not fine. The Sec1s could not memorise the lyrics nicely and we had to repeat it something like eight times. Then Wil Beng came in and scolded everyone.

Okay I shall not go on about that. We spring-cleaned the den (and killed 11 cockroaches in the process), moved stuff about and practiced our campfire gateway. And then some of us went for Catholic High Scouts campfire.

They were good. Very good. Their gateway was so 4 stories high, and they started off with a cool animation that will definitely give me run for my money. Then we sang some classic songs that made me wish our Sec1s could learn to sing for our campfire. Then Timothy became super enthusiastic and represented our troop in every game. Appaently, he looked good dressed up in palm leaves and dancing. All that shouting and cheering gave me a nastier sore throat.

Sunday. 38.5 fever, no voice. And chionging Bio Project. I could not believe I went through the whole day in less than 30 sentences. I had a headache throughout the day and got a little better that evening. So I went school on Monday (the Avester we provided at school on Monday was not a clone. It was the original with minimal sound effects.) And I went through it not talking a lot. This resulted in not paying attnetion in Lit Option and writing messenges to Kimberly, Ser Qi and Charmaine, wrongly accusued of sms-ing people in Geog Core, playing bridge with cards to show my contract bid and partner call and getting spammed with medicine by my doctor. Lucky though, Mr Chong did not come, or else my presentation marks would have been jeopardised.

I felt better on Tuesday. And there was nothing important that happened so let's skp skip skip to Friday. I had my PSL Interview today, it was fine, besides the fact that we need to take 4 photos. I was, however, given some unfair and critically self-reflective questions, which I shall not post on my blog. And the Jacket thing was fun-ny. Don't you agree I look much more sophisticated in that black jacket? (Although the addition of a cyan coloured jacket may have looked equally pleasing, it couldn't fit)

Hey! Blogger changed the dashboard layout thingy and got me stunned for a while. It was so not necessary. Extra and extra confusing. Lols. Anyway back to our regular scheduled post.

Avester's Column 75

Okay today I shall talk about what happened this week in my standard you-know-you-want-to-hear-it style, so sit back and continue reading please.

Tuesday started off with a big confusion as to whether there was IH Block1 Option, IH Block2 Option, All Options or No Options. Obviously not the last two choices, but anyway people started giving different completely contrasting points on IH Option and I was trying to find out if there was any Lit Option or not. Well, after some nice false leads, it was apparently Block2 Option as per normal. So much for the hysteria.

Bio Presentation. Rushed like mad the night before and gave up. Did not present, even though that cool nightmare-giving poster is on my previous blogpost. It's next Monday, after most of the class complained cannot. Lol, look at the class unity.

Wednesday. For civics we were supposed to write on some pieces of paper notes to thank people, to apologise, to admire and to remind ourselves of our... er... flaws.... I was quite busy not writing but instead rushing Chemistry homework. Moral learnt: Never EVER rush Chemistry homework. Then Ms Ngerng just had to say ' Mr Lin suggests that you all write apology notes to the teachers instead.'

And speaking of Mr Lin, I'm going to dedicate half of the rest of the blogpost to him, about him. Today for Chemistry we received our Bonding assignment and Acid Bases and Salts assignment back. He's quite smart. Well, we all know that the teachers know that we occasionally copied our homework and all (not that I'm guilty that often), so Mr Lin decided to be really funny and yet give some serious stern warnings at the same time, so he wrote 'stuff' on our Chemistry assignments.

Okay, he didn't do anything to my paper, because obviously, yeah. Here are the funnier ones:

Describe and explain the reaction when HCl Acid is added to Silver Metal.
Bryan's Answer: No reaction.
Mr Lin's Comment: Are you blind?

Describe the bonding in Rubidium Metal.
Kai Yi's Answer: Rubidium Metal is involved in metallic...*blah blah*

Mr Lin's Comment: Same grammatical error as Dominic!

Oh and he wrote this on Charmaine's paper which I'm like not feeling good about:
Guess Avester's answers are not as good as you thought, right?
Like indirectly saying that I was slacking for this assignment (which was partially true...)

And you won't believe what Jacky wrote for one of his answers:
State two physical properties you would expect SiC to have.
Jacky's Answer: It contains electricity. (He wanted to write 'conducts')

See? Chemistry is so fun. Haha. We spring-cleaned the class today during Chemistry lesson with Mr Lin today. Whee. How fun.

We also checked our CA2 marks today. I got 72.8 for Chemistry, 75.8 for Maths and 57.? for Chinese. I'm hoping to get 65+ for LA so that I won't disappoint Ms Ong. And I must try to get maybe a C5 (it's difficult...) for Physics, if possible. *sighs*

Well my printer scanner is not working since my com crashed and I'm doing all my stuff with a laptop and I have no idea how to connect the cables and stuff like that so I shall save myself the trouble of uploading some stuff. Well I have decided to be creative and so, I have actually practiced my signature in Chinese.

I know it's freaky. Especially since the signature looks more tribal-hieroglyphical than Chinese, haha. I should scan it and let you all see, but well...

Anyway have fun! Start revision soon, EOYs are just 3 weeks away!

This is not going to be a proper post. Rather, it is something posted terribly on the spur on the moment, just because Avester has nothing better to do and so, here we go.

The moment of DV-A-shun

Dictionary for all of you who did not get what I'm saying:

DV8-Deviate

DV-A-shun-Deviation (deviate to avoid being shunned)

DV-A-ter-Avester's new nickname. The Deviator.

Maybe this is the stress out period for most of us. People in class are feeling emo and angry and tired and bored and stressed out, it's taking an emotional toll on themselves, I'm probably one of them. I couldn't get myself to study or do anything the whole day. Not even go online to play. Just sitting down, or lying on the bed, looking around and not doing anything.

We have to change our way of thought. We have to change the way we act, the way we feel, the way we see things. We have to do everything, see everything differently. Help others, yes, bu sometimes, well, we have to find our own path out of us, out of that trench of emo-ness.

Everyone's paths are different. I tell myself I cannot follow anyone or everyone else because I want to be different. I'm a deviator.

Who's currently emo-ing.

And I tell myself, relax. Calm down. Don't let your concentration slip, don't panic. Never never panic, no matter what. Take a deep breath. Let it all out if you need to. And soon, all of you will see me back in my usual hyper self again, I promise.

Avester's Column 74-"Not just a column but a tower"

Okay, I spent Wednesday and Thursday with another stress relief game. This one is sure to relief stress. It's the card tower. THE CARD TOWER, and i built it up to 5 floors. Okay, so I finally realised-YES, FINALLY!-that the Prospectus given out at last year's VIP Open House was not lying. The Art Of Balance. Building the tower needed absolute concentration, balance and zen. Therefore stress and emo relief. And I know I'm flattering myself, obviously. But here are some pics to give you an insight of what I'm blabbering about.

Cool eh? Obviously.

Anyway, back to normal stuff. Testspam on Super Thursday, yesterday. Language Arts Essay. The question I chose was 'High Art is the only art worth looking at'. Eileen wrote that too, and obviously we were able to screen each other's points and copy, but apparently she agreed with the motion while I disagreed. But anyway LA is one of my better subjects and I'm confident of being able to handle it reasonably well on my own, not that I wanted to copy in the first place...duh. You also ought to know that I haven't studied for a single LA test or Essay. Hah! *gives you Mr Leonard Ng smile and laughter* The essay was 90 minutes. I took 52. So I got bored (naturally) and I decided to do a word count. 770 words. Okay still bored. Fine, counted average words per line (wpl), words per minute (wpm) and words per hour (wph). Still bored, and still got something like 25 minutes. Then Mr Ng wrote on the whiteboard:

And some other normal stuff. I wanted to add,

-Eat a sandwich (sandwich not provided)
-Plan Invasion of 08v12 (graph paper not provided)
-Call Jacky at this number: xxxxxxxx (number provided, duh)
-Do a word count (provided you are really bored)
-Obey Avester (Avester provided)

So that was our first test. Next we had Physics, Ms Ng walked in looking quite annoyed. I messed up my graph, probably will barely pass (hopefully). Then there was Chem, Mole Concept and Stoichiometry Quiz. It was BAD. Really BAD. REALLY really BAD. It wa so unexpected. Mr Lin walked out with his usual look, but I'll bet you he'll be in for a shock. Wow. I don't want to talk about it. Chaos Theory was after that and it was a much needed stress reliever for me. *heaves sigh of relief*

Today was quite fun. Mr Lin asked me to get 3 guys to help im carry lab equipment to class. Then halfway he got Ms Ngerng to sms me and tell me that only 2 people were needed. Then Jacky and I realised how cunning Mr Lin was to not reveal his handphone number to me by sms-ing me directly. Grrr. As cunning as a VS boy. Haha. Then Mr Lin performed Titration in Chem class. Before he started, he asked us how many of us performed titration in lower sec, or even heard of it. Then we all said no. Then he said "I had 5 last year and I thought THAT was bad. I'm appalled that our education system is going down, oh no." Titration looks cool, except that we all know the only reason I didn't get my A1 for Chem in CA1 was because I failed Chem Prac. Translation: I don't like Chem Prac. Haha, seriously.

For EA we had a talk by the Head of Chemistry for NUS. It's apparently Mr Lin's Chem professor. As well as Mr Teo. It was quite okay. Except that there was a massive number of slides that are too wordy and the whole presentation was so monotonous, I *almost* feel asleep. I didn't, obviously.

I was noticing the movie news when I remembered that the Mummy 3 premiered yesterday. And I still havent watched Dark Knight yet. But EOY is in Term 4 Week 1! How to watch movies like that?
