Avester's Column 40
Part I

It's New Year's Eve. Another year has passed. Let us now take a look back at many of the evntful moments that crossed our lives in 2007.

Victoria Challenge

2B undertook the mission of painting school slogans on the outer wall of a number of classrooms. While many would agree it was short, it was lively, exciting, quirky and filled with much fun. We sketched, messed up, wasted money, shouted at the top of our lungs, 'borrowed' -stole thinner from other classes (*cough*) and above all, messed up THREE toilets (2nd, 4th and 6th floor). And pretty much enjoyed ourselves.

Basically, the event was very different from what I expected. It did give us a chance to skip two days of lessons, but hey-that is NOT important, right??? It allowed us to interact freely with classmates, vent our anger, shout at the top of our voices and thrash toilets (THEN being forced to clean them up). It's probably something I will not forget.

Especially the toilet part.

IP Application

This year, a certain someone applied for IP. It was at this very point of time that certain someone realised that he had many many friends who didn't want him to part.

The truth was, I didn't expect so many of you to miss me. It's like...so not in fashion to be totally emo and all (and by that I do not refer to a certain senior). So I'm leaving. But don't get all totally upset and all and run away crying. It doesn't work out that way. My advice to all my friends? Work hard, study hard and do your best for all your exams! We'll meet again, fear not! :)

Actually there are many MANY more kajillion things I would love to share, but these two were specially picked out because I know they were the most important.

Part 2

I'm sure all of you want to hear about my VJ orientation camp, so I'll give a quick rundown. Hehe.

On Day 1, we were forced to introduceourselves to each other. Brief summary: 10 boys, 18 girls. In the same class as me, Jacky from 2H, Kai Yi from 2B and a bunch of VS boys. There are also boys and girls that are PRC scholars and Vietnam scholars.

Besides that, we found out *sneak preview* of our 2008 syllabus. It's a twisted, TWISTED syallbus. Week 1. VJ orientation. Then we were like complaining, if that was VJ orientation, why are we wasting our precious holiday attending this... 'camp'? Oh...the reply? This 'camp' is IP orientation. I see. Week 2. Special 'helmsman' week. No lessons. Just a whole week focusing on one topic. The topic? Agape¹.

Bad enough? Term 3 Week 1 and 2 is EXAM WEEK!!! There goes PLTC...just kidding -.- and Term 4 WEEK 2-3 is Final Year EOY!!! ARGHHHHHHH!!!! It's so terrible it could only be described in big bold red capital letters!!! That's like...huh??? And we still have overseas trips and Financial literacy.

The subjects? Triple Science. Triple Humanities. General Paper. And more.

Actually, it ain't that bad. The way I see it. I guess.

*gulp*

Then we played some amazing race games, with silly obstacles...spider web game, and another one where we bound our legs together with rafia and had to walk around...and fell...and running around the place with our peer leaders purposely misguiding us...

Day 2. Water games. We had to make a boat. That could withstand weight of many pebbles. Split into teams. Angry. Short sentences. My team's boat rocks. Won best design. Our class total score put us in fourth place.

There were four classes...so...

Moving on. Amazing race. Wet version. Water bomb thrown at others *Chiang Han* tug of war in soapy water. Using our PE T-shirts (for boys) to collect as much water as we can. Fancy soap water obstacle course.

Day 3. Fancy game. Completing activities. We were given a peg each, that was our lifeline. If we lost it, we had to go to jail. (Yay, long sentences!) We had to steal as many lifelines from other classes. We came in second. The peer leaders stole too. And we can't steal back from peer leaders...

And then...nothing much well, really...

1 Agape-unconditional love.

Part 3

Basically, I have set a few resolutions which I must be responsible in the achieving of such set targets in order to maintain...oh you get the point. Must. Follow. Resolutions.

1. Do my exams properly. I promise to study for each exam and test, and study hard! HARD!!! Something I failed to do since Sec 1, I shall regain my composure, keep my cool and make sure I not mess up any more tests.

2. Scouts. Yes, I made a promise to come back whenever I could. And I shall hold myself responsible to that promise. Also, this would be a chance to catch up on my VS friends! Don't worry-I won't forget, promise! :)

3. Not forget VS teachers. I will come back on the following occasions to snipe a visit to the teachers I owe so much to. Chinese New Year Eve. National Day Eve. Teacher's Day Eve. Last Day Of School.

4. Blog more often. Since I'm leaving many MANY good friends, I will use my blog to keep in touch and express myself.

FINAL WEEKEND!!!

Avester's Column 39, 2nd last for the year...(wait till you see the one about my new year resolu...er...)

Jacky today asked me a question, 'Avester, are you going back to the Sec 1 Orientation tomorrow?' I rebounded it, asking, 'Are YOU?' He told me that he would not, and that he knew I'd be going back. So I did make a few new friends, and you probably would be baffled by my wanting to return.

In short, the VS boys from my class got MIXED REACTIONS!!!

MR is quite a funny thing during the whole IP1 orientation. The peer leaders were like, speaking, and the girls was like, 'Harh? Must play with water bomb ar?' And the boys went 'I'm going to like get you later' and 'You watch it man...' and they start staring at each other. Then another group of jokers were like 'Can don't play?' and "What did you say?' and the whole room went chaotic for 15 seconds or so.

That, however, is not the main focus of this post. So please focus on the next line(s(s(s))).

Back to the VS boys from my class. Jacky went 'Why you go? Don't waste your time!', then some guy wanted to tag along, so we ended having a big discussion about how we all sucked at push-ups, that our peer leader was the only Arsenal supporter, and that the girls don't know how to do the shrill scream in the VJ(VS) Unite! cheer. We kinda sidetracked.

After all that massive sidetracking, me and Jacky had a short chat about me turning up tommorrow. We discussed the individual PL's reactions (which I will not reveal), we discussed the Sec2's reactions...we discussed AL's reactions, we discussed the possibility of hamburgers on the BBQ stove (just kidding). So he asked me again,'Why do you bother?'

The truth is, well, I may already have a bunch of friends from VJ, but I really will miss my VS friends. Not just my classmates, but my CCA mates as well. It's hard leaving, yeah, so I will make that effort to turn up to meet you guys, whether YOU LIKE IT OR NOT. Because I know these are my friends, and I must never ever forget them, and blah blah blah all that talk about the sheer importance of fostering and maintaining friendships blah blah blah. You get the point.

Please don't give me MR. I got enough of that after being soaked head to toe playing the wet games today.

So well, if you have bothered to read this up to here, I'll give you a piece of good news.

If you are my level, (basically meaning that you are Sec 2 in 2007), we will see each other again in 2010, IF you go to VJ, when you are in JC1. IP3 and JC1 students share the same class, just that IP students stay back for some activities and stuff.

This is not the parting. It is just an obstacle. I know that I will see you all again.

I apologize for no updates last week, due to the fact that I was pretty much too busy preparing stuff and er...partying and going out and meeting friends and...let's just say I had no time to blog. And this week I'll be at VJ for orientation (Thur-Sat), luckily not an overnight camp. So I'll only make another post this weekend (if you are lucky).

Section C

To all of you out there, seasons greetings and we gladly await the new year! Here's to the end of BOREDOM!

Sometimes I wonder if a psychologist or comedian can cross paths and um...share their interests. Strangely enough, well, maybe it could happen.

What could you do when you are utterly bored during the boredom peak period 'aka holidays?'. If YOU had a choice, who would you go to, the comedian for 'advice' or the psychologist for...'advice'? Or would you rather continue reading this post for wisdom, knowledge and handy advice?

Let us begin our sharing of wisdom! There can only be one method (that will soon branch out into many methods of pure silliness). Please, bring in the lightbulb!

How many lawyers does it take to fix a lightbulb?
Three. One to screw it in, one to file a report for the damaged bulb, and one to file a claim for the repair costs.

How many army generals would it take to fix a lightbulb?
None. They would force the soldiers to do it for them.

How many soldiers does it take to fix a lightbulb?
Soldiers SHOULD NOT be afraid of the dark.

How many pessimists does it take to fix a lightbulb?
The new bulb will probably blow up as well...don't bother.

How many resturant waiters does it take to fix a lightbulb?
Why do you think they have candlelight dinners...? -.-

How many security guards does it take to fix a lightbulb?
n. Where n is the result of the following statement: One security guard to fix the bulb, ten to guard him, ten more to guard each of those ten, ten more for each of those guarding each of the original ten, ten more...

How many carpark attendants does it take to fix a lightbulb?
Well...they won't fix it for you...but they'd probably issue a fine...

How many computer programmers does it take to fix a lightbulb?
Computers give off light, too.

Avester's Column 38

Being back from overseas would naturally mean a few things.

1. You miss¹ Chicken Rice.
2. You bought a whole bunch of stuff you know you will probably never use in the next 10 years or so, and you probably would be giving them away as gifts² .
3. You have brought back a plethora of stories about your escapades³ overseas.
4. Your hand aches from carrying shopping that does NOT⁴ belong to you.

¹ How much one would miss Chicken Rice is up to one's discretion. (and hunger.)
² Just kidding about the 'gifts' part.
³ Not that we would want to hear about such 'escapades'.
⁴ Hmm...maybe a teeny bit of that shopping belonged to me. *coughfastfoodcough*

Therefore, given reason number three, I shall not focus on such meaningless activities and waste precious typing space (yes, I know, Blogger has an almost unlimited typing space per post, we said almost), hence allow me to elaborate on something that just happened. How about, let's see...oh yes! My trip overseas!

We saw an extra-large number of houseflies. They just kept buzzing and irritating and pestering you like they want to make your lives extra difficult for that day and make you want to swat them, but due to *difficult terminology ahead* houseflies bearing compoundeyes, that is the ability of seeing through many eyes focusing on a wide variety of locations , or as if to say, omnipresently, as such having the ability and quickened reflexes to neatly dodge my rampaging, barraging attacks *difficult terminology end*. In short, they were soo-pah annoying. And it was not one fine day.

IT WAS MORE THAN TEN OUTRAGEOUS DAYS!!!

Luckily, houseflies weren't the only attraction. There was the Sydney Opera House. And in Melbourne there were farms. 'REAL' farms. With sheep and cattle and...houseflies. We fed animals and fled away from animals *houseflies* and ate Chinese food. Would you believe it? We went to Australia and the first three days the tour group provides Chinese food for lunch?

I almost didn't believe it. We went to a restaurant called 'Shark Fin Specialty' or something like that. They had crabs and lobsters and oysters and practically all sorts of illustrious seafood. And there was no sharkfin on the menu. The fish however, tasted good. With dim sum, aka Chinese food again.

Also, there was a hilarious amout of lightbulb jokes, which I must continue the next post.

And finally, we went to visit fruit farms. Most of them had owners competing their prices aggresively. You know...I wonder if there is a difference between '$2 per 100g. Minimum purchase half a kilo' OR ' 1kg for 10 dollars! Crazy sale!'

The way I see it, it really is terrifying. The fruits are outrageously small, by the way. Oh, and some establishments also offered 'U-pick, U-keep', where you pay a fee to pick your own fruits, THEN pay per 100g, then bring 'em back. Pay pay pay. That was kinda...erm...why can't they just charge a flat rate so that we can pick as much as we want?

*Breaking News!* TOURISTS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF u-PICK FARM AND RAID A CHERRY FARM DRY!!!

Just kidding. Maybe those crazy price chargers have a point.

Anyway, we basically brought home loads of Vitamin C. I am forced to eat apricots after dinner daily to make sure my parents money aren't wasted. Ah!!!

Pay pay pay. Sigh. That's what people always do, and always want others to do.
